About this event
Instructor: Shaun C. | Ages 12+
Take your wheel thrown pieces to the next level by learning how to create the perfectly finished bottom with trimming. This workshop is a dabbler-friendly approach to learning to trim, involving a needle tool and the maker's eye. With two provided pre-thrown pieces, we'll go over how to center and secure greenware back on the wheel. You'll discover how to create a clean and symmetric foot on the bottom of your pieces, how to clean up blemishes in your pieces and how throwing thicker opens you up to creating shape during the trimming process. You'll have the chance to play with a variety of trimming tools to see how they affect the end result.
It's highly recommended that you research inspiration before class so that you're ready to execute your vision as soon as you sit at the wheel.
This is a Skill-based Workshop . This workshop will cover a specific skill that is used to create a finished pottery piece. Due to the nature of this type of class, we may not cover every skill required to throw your own projects in the future. Interested in building a finished project? We recommend taking one of our project-based workshops or courses. Note: This workshop includes bisque firing for your piece(s), but glazing will not be covered in this workshop. Glazing can be done in a future glazing workshop or in studio with a day pass .
Dabblers are expanding their skills. This may be their second class, but they’re ready to play in the mud and continue building their ceramics knowledge. Learn more about the Maker's Journey here .
No partial refunds or make-up instruction will be provided if class is missed. Please make sure you are available before registering. Please wear clothes you’re okay with getting messy and plan to remove all jewelry. Long hair will need to be pulled back and short nails are recommended.
Ceramics can be an unpredictable art. As the saying goes, "You can't love a piece until it comes out of the final firing". We put love and care into every piece that is made in our studio, but some things we can't control. We hope that you enjoy the experience of learning to create pottery and kiln gods willing, fall in love with your finished piece, but we cannot guarantee the functionality or final outcome of your piece. Promotional photos use pieces that have been created by professional potters—class results may vary based on skill level.
