COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland is reviewing options for the 103-year-old Immaculate Conception of Mary Parish in Kenmore amid ongoing financial struggles and low attendance. CULTURE NEWS

  • Residents are reviving the Captain Brady Day festival for the first time since 2007. The event is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 25 at Brady Lake Park, featuring a parade, kayak race, vendors, games & food trucks.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Local artist Claire Cressler displays pen and ink sketches of Akron-area landmarks (originally featured in a historic Great Northern Savings community calendar) that capture Summit County's heritage.   • On Jan. 11, ODOT reported that early morning snowfall rapidly changed road conditions in Akron (raising safety concerns), and local officials advised drivers to remain cautious today as unpredictable winter weather continues.  Cleveland 19 News
  • Residents near the planned waste transfer station in East Akron can offer input today at 5 p.m. at the Akron City Council chambers (166 S. High St.) as the Archwood Redevelopment Plan is discussed to prepare for future infrastructure spending using projected tax revenues.  Signal Akron
  • After appearing before City Council on Jan. 5, Tiffany Smith’s heartfelt appeal led Akron to reverse its stance by agreeing to cover costs for repairing the broken sewer line at her Kenmore home. The decision follows months of miscommunication and legal pressure on the family.  Signal Akron
