- ➤ Over 100 young women attended the Female Youth Symposium: Comfortable in Your Skin at John R. Buchtel Community Learning Center on Jan. 17 as part of MLK weekend, where APS superintendent Mary Outley led affirmations and breakout sessions (focusing on self-esteem, healthy relationships, and personal growth). - ➤ Akron teen Charlie Landers from Western Reserve Academy held workshops at Ohio Living Rockynol (near Highland Square) and Heritage Crossing in Fairlawn Heights last year to teach seniors how to spot cyber scams. - ➤ Akron officials said water tests confirmed safe drinking water in the Portage Lakes area after a boil advisory was issued Friday due to a water main break on Cormany Road at Robinson Avenue. Repairs were completed Saturday and residents may still see minor discoloration (from water scouring) until the water clears. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Caitlyn Holmes, an Ellet grad and Akron native, debuted for Kent State in the rivalry game against Akron on Jan. 17 at the M.A.C. - ➤ Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland is sidelined for a week after a grade 1 right big toe sprain, confirmed by imaging at Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine on Jan. 17. He was injured on Jan. 14 in a game against the 76ers and will be reevaluated in 7 to 10 days. Akron Beacon Journal
