CULTURE NEWS

  • John Legend will perform his 'An Evening of Songs and Stories' tour at the Akron Civic Theatre on Saturday, April 11. Tickets go on sale Friday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. (via Ticketmaster.com) for an intimate evening featuring his biggest hits and personal stories.  WKYC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The city of Akron is offering a free five-week financial literacy program for adults at Joy Park Community Center (825 Fuller St) beginning Feb. 12 from 6-7 p.m. Topics include generational wealth, retirement planning, college funds, tax-free accounts and life insurance.  Cleveland.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Akron officials are reviewing five proposals to preserve the historic Firestone clock tower — a key asset — after a dispute with the State Historic Preservation Office. The proposals will be presented next month to the Urban Design and Historic Preservation Commission to secure state compliance and grant funds.  Signal Akron
  • Starting Feb. 1, the TSA is introducing ConfirmID, an online identity verification option for $45 for Ohio travelers without REAL ID. Passengers must complete the process (10-15 minutes) before reaching security and should expect longer wait times.  WKYC

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross urged Northeast Ohio residents to donate blood as severe winter weather and rising flu cases cut supplies by 35% since last month. Donation events in Akron and nearby counties run Jan. 20 to Feb. 3 + help hospitals treat patients on time.  Akron Beacon Journal
