BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flights at Akron-Canton Airport were mostly on time on Jan. 26 despite a few delays and cancellations following Winter Storm Fern. The airport manager said airlines helped passengers adjust plans and advised customers to sign up for text alerts to check flight statuses.  Akron Beacon Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from GasBuddy released early Monday showed that gas prices in Akron jumped to $2.87 per gallon (up 15.5 cents) while prices in Cleveland rose to $2.88 (an increase of 10.3 cents) compared to last week.  WKYC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the National Weather Service warned that extreme wind chills reaching negative 26 are possible, with light snow showers expected between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Residents (if outside) should dress in layers to avoid frostbite.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • The ODNR stocked over 36 million fish at 233 sites statewide in 2025, boosting local waters from Shreve Lake’s $6.5M restoration to Salt Fork’s muskie-rich releases (benefiting the Big Five counties). Local hatcheries will host open houses from March 28 to April 25 to welcome anglers.  Akron Beacon Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since Sunday, ODOT crews have worked 12-hour shifts to cover 180,000 miles, clearing snow and treating ice on main routes plus paying extra attention to ramps and bridges for safer travel.  Cleveland 19 News
  • Akron extended Summit Lake Community Center hours (8 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Feb. 1) and the Emergency Overnight Warming Center (7 p.m. to 8 a.m. until Jan. 30) following forecasts of frigid weather with wind chills down to -25.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Gov. Mike DeWine urged Ohioans to take caution as freezing temperatures — highs in the teens and lows at or below zero overnight — are expected throughout the week; officials advise residents to stay home if possible, prepare vehicles, and check on older neighbors.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • A winter storm dropped record snowfall over the weekend and many Ohio cities now offer online trackers to show snowplow progress. In Akron, residents can check the Snow and Ice Response dashboard (which shows updates every hour) to see when their streets might be cleared.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • The Akron RubberDucks will rebrand as the Akron Chip Dippers for two nights in June (Only in Akron series) to honor the region's long chip dip tradition. The team plans the rebrand on June 19 and 20 and invites fans to join the celebration at their home stadium.  Cleveland 19 News
