EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ohio Senate Bill 19 passed the Senate in November — it bars teachers who fail a math benchmark from leading math classes pending a House vote. The bill requires education departments to set clear math proficiency standards for new teaching credentials and aims to boost quality instruction. Akron Beacon Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Ohio Department of Agriculture expanded its quarantine to include northern counties (including Cuyahoga and Lake) to curb the spread of the invasive box tree moth that threatens local boxwood plants. - ➤ Marsha Andrus, a 20-year resident of Spring Hill Apartments, spoke at city council Monday night to voice concerns about roaches and bedbugs. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ The Akron-Summit County Public Library named Michelle Alleman as its new executive director on Feb. 3, 2026.
