- ➤ Akron Public Schools Superintendent Mary Outley explained how the College and Career Academies model evolved (begun in 2016) to expand opportunities for students. The discussion highlighted the program’s growth and impact in preparing students for future success. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Imira Cobb, an eighth grader at Litchfield Community Learning Center, won the APS district spelling bee yesterday at downtown headquarters by spelling words including P-R-O-T-O-T-Y-P-E correctly to earn a trophy + $150 Visa gift card. - ➤ Akron Public Schools presented a plan to cut $11 million from its nearly $386 million budget by reducing staffing and program costs, according to Superintendent Mary Outley who outlined the proposal on Feb. 23; the board is set to vote on the measures on March 9 (affecting 19,000 students). - ➤ Ohio Lottery officials announced that Millionaire for Life replaced Lucky for Life last Sunday. The new game offers a top prize of $1 million a year for life with $5 tickets and nightly 11:15 p.m. drawings; players select six numbers including a Millionaire Ball for a chance to win. - ➤ More than 211,000 children's onesies from MCS and Lullaby Lane sold at Meijer stores in six states were recalled over burn risks for 12-, 18- and 24-month-olds. Customers should return them for a full refund; no injuries were reported. WKYC

- ➤ Former Barberton High basketball players will hold a free event Saturday, March 28 from 2-5 p.m. at the high school auditorium to celebrate the 50th anniversary state title (featuring storytelling, a performance by singer-songwriter Teddy Robb and the launch of the Jack Greynolds Memorial Scholarship). - ➤ The Guardians are set to try a new approach in spring training by moving All-Star Steven Kwan into center field to address a long-standing issue, with manager Stephen Vogt noting that many players will get playing time (including Chase DeLauter and George Valera). Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Kent State women’s basketball team boosted its confidence with an 80-61 win over Akron on Feb. 24 and now faces four regular season games before the MAC Tournament.
