- ➤ Unify Akron leader Morgan Lasher confirmed 65 delegates Thursday after a public civic lottery—these individuals will examine solutions to address local housing challenges, and an opening ceremony is scheduled for March 13 at the University of Akron. News 5 Cleveland
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Akron City Council approved a permit on Feb. 23 for a 5,400 sqft expansion to a day care center (1264 Copley Road). Owner Shunnah Tyler will purchase three city-owned parcels to add spaces for child care, adult care, and a clinic plus a parking lot to support local business. Akron.com
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Raise, a darkly comedic play from France, will run at the Coach House on Exchange St. from Feb. 28 to March 8. Directed by Jim Fippin and produced by Thomas Zipp, the play uses humor to show work struggles (tickets cost $20). Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Akron residents can enjoy the first ArtWalk at Summit Artspace on March 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. after renovations, which is held in partnership with Summit DD (for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month) and features art, live music, food trucks and interactive exhibits. Akron.com
- ➤ Seven women rock artists have been announced to perform in 'Our Day Will Come: NEO Women Rock' to honor legendary women from our region; the shows will be held on March 13 at The Knight Stage in downtown Akron and on March 19 at The Music Box Supper Club in Cleveland. Akron.com

- ➤ The Akron/Summit Convention and Visitors Bureau announced that 35 Summit County groups received part of a $50,000 tourism grant program designed to boost overnight stays, visitor spending and local attractions. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Akron Public Schools superintendent Mary Outley proposed over $11 million in cuts to administration, operations and programs to avoid a budget shortfall next school year. The board will vote on the proposal in March after a conversation at North High School (downtown) on Feb. 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Akron.com
- ➤ Copley High School (CHS) and Copley-Fairlawn Middle School Quiz Bowl teams won local tournaments and now prepare for national competitions in May. A large invitational takes place tomorrow, Feb. 28 at CHS after strong finishes earlier this month. Akron.com
- ➤ Thomas McKinnon is the new director of athletics for Akron Public Schools and plans to boost participation by encouraging students to try multiple sports. He will oversee a $2.5 million improvement at Buchtel stadium, which will be complete by mid-August before the Sept. 4 football game. Akron.com

- ➤ Manufactured home tax bills were mailed Feb. 3 with payment due March 2 at the drop box at E. Tallmadge Ave in Akron (active military personnel may defer payment). Community Action Akron’s HEAP Winter Crisis Program will help income-eligible residents with energy bills or heating repairs until March 31. Akron.com

- ➤ Highland’s Elisabeth Lutzko, Hudson’s Ella Gilanyi and Woodridge’s Megan Likovetz reached the finals at the state diving meet in Canton on Feb. 25. The divers missed the podium but built experience for future competitions. Akron Beacon Journal
