- ➤ National American Cycle Co. once manufactured over 20,000 bikes a year in Akron at its East Mill Street factory before the market collapsed with the rise of automobiles. The firm reorganized as the Akron Motor Carriage Co. in 1901, marking the end of its bicycle era. Akron Beacon Journal
