  • Akron City Council passed a resolution on March 2 (showing community commitment) urging a rename of West Akron's Schneider Park to Schneider Memorial Park in honor of unmarked graves beneath it.   • National American Cycle Co. once manufactured over 20,000 bikes a year in Akron at its East Mill Street factory before the market collapsed with the rise of automobiles. The firm reorganized as the Akron Motor Carriage Co. in 1901, marking the end of its bicycle era.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Sisters Karen and Stephanie Singleton used ChatGPT (an AI tool) at Akron Public Library (Feb. 27) to create a book that memorializes their mother Theresa and highlights their deep local ties.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • FirstEnergy crews are working 16-hour days to restore power as outages continue across Akron after strong winds left tens of thousands without electricity. The company said crews are working around the clock & more repairs are expected today.  Cleveland 19 News

  • The 97th annual Akron Beacon Journal Regional Spelling Bee was held Sunday, Mar. 15 at the Akron Public Library. Local students competed in rounds (drawing participants from several schools) as photos captured moments of focus and celebration.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Brennan Warwick (from Perry High) won his first state wrestling title in his final match, marking a milestone in his athletic career.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Canton native Darryn Peterson and his Kansas teammates will face No. 13 Cal Baptist in the NCAA Tournament first round in San Diego after earning a No. 4 seed + Peterson is projected as a top NBA draft pick.  Akron Beacon Journal
