ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Southwestern Ohio native Capt. Curtis Angst, 30, died on March 12 when a KC-135 tanker crashed near the border of Iraq and Jordan — he served as a pilot with the 121st Air Refueling Wing.  Akron Beacon Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Closing arguments began on Monday, March 16 at Summit County Common Pleas Court in Akron in the trial of former FirstEnergy executives Chuck Jones and Michael Dowling.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • 750ml Wines is hosting a guided tasting of four premium wines from Roy Estate at Pilgrim Square (2287 W. Market St.) for $99. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 25.  Cleveland.com
  • Akron announced the first wave of national touring acts for Lock 3 summer concerts, with Gin Blossoms, Carl Thomas, Tom Keifer and Gerald Albright scheduled for six shows. Tickets go on sale this week at local box offices and the full lineup, including local acts, will be unveiled on Apr. 15.  Akron Beacon Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 16, Akron City Council approved spending $500,000 in HOME funds to convert the historic Beacon Journal building (44 E. Exchange St.) into 120 affordable apartments. The project will update systems and offer studios as well as one, two, and three bedroom units to support workforce housing downtown.  Akron Beacon Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Costco recalled its Meatloaf with Mashed Yukon Potatoes and Glaze (sell-by dates Mar. 5 to Mar. 16) after an ingredient was reported to have potential Salmonella contamination. Customers in Ohio and Kentucky should return the product to their local store for a full refund.  Akron Beacon Journal
