COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Altrusa International of Akron will host Princess Night Project—a free prom dress event for high school girls on Saturday, Mar. 28 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Hall in Akron.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • After their son George died in June 2025, the Howleys founded the Be Cheechy Foundation to spread joy through random acts of kindness (cheeching people). Over 2,400 acts have united Akron, and a fundraising event on March 21 at House Three Thirty honored his upcoming fourth birthday.  Signal Akron
  • Little Diggers in Fairlawn now features an indoor sandbox where kids can sift, haul and build. The play area offers a creative space for families seeking indoor fun today.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cherry blossom season is underway in Ohio, and Akron’s Downtown Akron Sakura Festival will take place Saturday, April 4 along the Towpath Trail to celebrate the blooms.   • Andrew Welsh-Huggins releases his new thriller 'The Delivery' and Daniel Grace launches 'In the Wake of Golgotha' amid several literary events across Northeast Ohio.   • This week, Northeast Ohio will host a slate of events from the Maple Sugar Festival in Bath Township on March 22 to Jilly’s Open Stages in Akron on March 25 and concerts in Cleveland and Kent later. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Akron Children’s Museum will host 'All Aboard the Akron Express: Rails & Runways!' on April 25 and 26 in downtown Akron. Families can enjoy model train and aviation exhibits with hands-on STEM activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; tickets include museum admission.  News 5 Cleveland

  • Mark Greer joined the Development Finance Authority of Summit County as chief development and engagement officer on March 11 (he formerly led Akron 200). He will drive community engagement and build new partnerships.  Akron Beacon Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cardinal Health is recalling multiple lots of its Webcol Large Alcohol Prep Pads as the FDA warns of potential microbial contamination—risky for those with weakened immunity—that could cause infection risks.
