A 12-year-old boy died Saturday in an Akron home after being found unresponsive and police charged a 23-year-old man with endangering children—he remains in custody in Summit County Jail.

Akron police are investigating the death of a 12-year-old boy who suffered cardiac arrest at 2:30 p.m. Saturday after officers and Akron Fire responded to the 100 block of South Balch Street; they have detained a 23-year-old man—known to the family—for felony child endangerment as the investigation continues.

Akron residents gave feedback on remaking the Innerbelt at a meeting on March 18th at the Akron Urban League—focusing on affordable housing, preserving Black history, and economic development—as officials said the planning phase will continue through the summer even if a $10 million federal grant falls through.

On Thursday, an unvaccinated adult in Ashtabula got measles (the first case in Ohio since July) after contact with someone who had traveled internationally; health officials ask residents to get vaccinated (two doses recommended) to stop serious illness.
