GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Summit County Council approved a resolution on March 24 urging Ohio's 136th General Assembly to adopt Senate Bill 109 to provide free breakfast and lunch for public and chartered nonpublic school students—this step follows concerns that budget cuts from the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee could impact over 280,000 students. The Council also approved a subaward to fund services for older adults and adjusted the levy for the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board, and it will reconvene on March 31.  Akron.com
  • College students have fought Senate Bill 1, which they say will cut college independence by ending DEI programs and requiring civics classes, by holding workshops, protests, walkouts, and a Dial DeWine party to reach Governor DeWine—after attempts to deliver a letter were turned away. Their efforts have grown in membership and social media support, yet lawmakers have not addressed their concerns.  Signal Akron
