COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Falls Cancer Club will host Battle of the Badges on April 17 at 6 p.m. at Cuyahoga Falls High School Gym (2630 13th St.), featuring a kids’ free throw contest and 50/50 raffle; tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children, up to $20 per family.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • On Sunday afternoon, hundreds of kids enjoyed an Easter egg hunt as a helicopter dropped 10,000 eggs at Lane Field; Faith International Temple organized the event (with the Easter bunny in attendance) to celebrate a local tradition.  News 5 Cleveland

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire at 814 Ina Ct. Saturday night left four families displaced after firefighters quenched the blaze just before 8 p.m. with no injuries, and the Red Cross provided aid while investigators probed the cause.  News 5 Cleveland

  • Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse has reopened in Bath as chefs prepare new dishes for diners. The restaurant now offers fresh menu options and a familiar atmosphere for guests to enjoy.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Star Channel premiered on April 1, 1976 on Warner Cable by showing one uncut film six times a day, turning home TVs into mini theaters for Akron residents and laying the groundwork for today’s premium cable services.  Akron Beacon Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Western Reserve Academy in Hudson received a $5 million donation from the CJ Wang Foundation to expand its Wang Makerspace and Innovation Center with a 16,000 sqft addition and plans for a new food science lab and AI lab; groundbreaking will happen on June 5 during the school's bicentennial celebrations.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Akron Public Schools plans to move Miller South School for the Visual and Performing Arts to a new Kenmore facility and may demolish its current East Avenue building (community input is invited for repurposing).  Signal Akron
  • Holly Christensen said her daughter's IEP now includes skills for independent living and employment as she plans for her future. She met with John Rasinski at Pegasus Farm in Hartville + learned how Medicaid waivers help adults with developmental disabilities work.  Akron Beacon Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Akron residents can report potholes by calling 311 during weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.- new pothole trucks have been deployed to fix dangerous road dips, while Summit County drivers should call their engineer’s office for similar issues.  Signal Akron

  • Liberty Center High’s cheer team won an international title in Orlando (after 10 months of practice and fundraising) and added to its state championship success. Seniors say the win highlights strong community support and teamwork.  WKYC
