- ➤ As part of Akron’s bicentennial celebrations, a look back at local history shows that in 1825 Wetmore and his crew built a dam and mills along the Cuyahoga, in 1875 citizens raised $25,000 to build the Soldiers’ Memorial Chapel at Glendale Cemetery, in 1925 pranksters spiked a luncheon with hot tricks—and in 1975 police investigated a tip on Patty Hearst while in 2000 officers arrested 20 people after a three‐month drug investigation.
