  • Keep Akron Beautiful, a local nonprofit, celebrates 45 years with Cleanup Akron Month this April and invites volunteers to beautify streets and parks. Participants can join community cleanups or start their own and receive free Akron Zoo admission and supplies (bags, gloves).  Signal Akron

  • University of Akron students keep a long-standing tradition alive by performing with recycled instruments to honor Caribbean steelpan roots.   • Ohio has detected the 'Cicada' COVID variant, and health officials advise residents who test positive to stay home until fever-free for 24 hours (without medication). Hospitalizations have declined since January, while the variant now appears in 25 states.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • The Akron medical examiner’s office is asking the public to help identify next of kin for a 66-year-old man who died on March 25 at his South Valley Street apartment from natural causes. Friends noted he had legally changed his name.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • The Akron Zips men's basketball team hired Dustin Ford as head coach on Monday, March 30. Ford spent 18 seasons as an assistant—including nine at Akron—and will lead the program following John Groce's departure to coach at Charleston.  Akron Beacon Journal
