COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 2,700 residents narrowed the contest for Akron's best burger to four finalists, with Swensons facing Main Street Saloon and Bob's Hamburg going up against Ido Bar - Grill. Voting will continue until just before midnight on April 5, with the Top 2 announced on April 7 and the winner revealed on April 14.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Buckets opens today at House Three Thirty on West Market Street, brought by LeBron James' foundation to offer fried chicken and job training for I Promise participants (menu prices end in .23 as a tribute to his jersey).  Akron Beacon Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices jumped above $4 a gallon nationally on Tuesday due to global oil supply disruptions from conflict in the Middle East (AAA reported an average of $4.02), and Akron drivers may soon face higher fuel costs that could strain local budgets.  Cleveland 19 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from across Summit County competed in the 25th annual Miniature Bridge Building Competition (hosted by the Summit County Engineer's Office), putting their design skills to the test.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • A Beacon Journal report noted Akron Public Schools spend $19,100 per student while Steubenville educates students at $11,395 with strong third-grade reading scores (including 100% proficiency among Black students), and Akron is considering cutting 25 support positions to meet budgeting guidelines.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Malaki Branham, a St. Vincent-St. Mary graduate, is ready with the Cleveland Charge for today’s playoff opener at Cleveland Public Hall at 7:30 p.m. The former Ohio State standout looks forward to showcasing his skills close to home + boosting local pride.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • On Monday the Akron Zips men's basketball team named assistant coach Dustin Ford as head coach. He spent nine seasons with the program and is set to lead the team this season.  iHeartMedia
