COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Akron area organizers have planned many Easter egg hunts and events for families, including hunts at the Akron Zoo (April 5 to 6, 12 to 13, and 19), at Stan Hywet (April 19 with morning and afternoon sessions), and at the Summit County Land Bank in Akron (April 12). Other events in Barberton, Cuyahoga Falls, Kenmore, Kent, Stow, and Twinsburg offer free activities, candy-filled eggs, and chances to take photos with the Easter Bunny.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Akron History Center opens this weekend with hours on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 6 from 1 to 4 p.m., and the Downtown Akron Sakura Festival runs Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. — offering cherry blossom views, sake and sushi tastings, tea making and an 8 p.m. lantern boat lighting at Lock 2. A Puppy Pals Live show plays at Goodyear Theater on Saturday at 3 p.m. with tickets costing between $22 and $27.  Signal Akron

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the City of Akron is one of 20 finalists for the National Civic League All-America City Award—a fourth recognition for the city that was honored in 1981, 1995 and 2008.   • Today the Ohio Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition begins at Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center — 12 local members and 8 soldiers from Serbia and Hungary will test technical and tactical skills to earn top honors.   • Akron City Council passed a $798M 2025 budget this week to support public safety, key city services and special programs — adding funds for after school care and police oversight — while cutting street lighting and property tax spending to balance the funds.  Cleveland.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Trader Joe’s is recalling its Hot Honey Mustard Dressing — produced at a regional facility with a May 27 use by date — because its label lacks allergen callouts for peanuts, soy, sesame and wheat.
