- ➤ Goodyear is giving its Wingfoot One an old-school makeover—featuring a black and silver color scheme and a throwback Goodyear logo inspired by its first blimp—and will launch a national tour on June 3 to celebrate 100 years in the blimp business. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ The Akron History Center, which celebrates the city's 200 years of history, opens tomorrow in downtown Akron at 172 South Main Street. The $2.2 million center, housed in a century-old building, spans three floors and features over 60 exhibits and 100 historic artifacts that explore local industry, social justice progress, and transportation developments (including the Ohio and Erie Canal and airship history). - ➤ New vehicle sales in northern Ohio rose by 7.75% in March, reaching 19,697 compared to 18,280 a year ago—boosted by the early Cleveland Auto Show that increased consumer traffic. Chevrolet led the sales with 2,954 vehicles, with Ford close behind at 2,377. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Local universities will face changes as they deal with budget cuts and state rules. The University of Akron may lay off workers to fix a $22 million gap while Kent State cut several majors and 30 jobs—Gov. - ➤ On Wednesday, Cuyahoga Valley National Park closed restrooms at the Boston Store, Horseshoe Pond and Pine Lane trailheads because of federal cuts. - ➤ Akron Municipal Court installed a universal changing table that can be raised or lowered easily—making it the country's first courthouse with this inclusive facility funded by the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board using American Rescue Plan funds. - ➤ On March 31, Akron City Council approved a revised $798 million operating budget that adds $50k for Akron Public Schools’ After School program, $45k for the Citizens’ Police Oversight Board, $100k for Keep Akron Beautiful and $50k for annual mowing. The budget shows a 2% decrease from last year due to a $13 million shortfall from lost coronavirus relief funding—plus a new fixed electric rate with Dynegy starting in May, with Council set to meet on April 7 to discuss further actions. - ➤ Twenty-eight new Akron firefighters graduated from the local fire academy on March 21, including the department’s first recruit of Japanese heritage and a record five women in a class that brought a range of backgrounds from first careers to experienced professionals.
