- ➤ Throughout April, the Humane Society of Summit County's free mobile pet unit—MABEL—is set to visit Akron and Barberton to offer spay, neuter, vaccine and checkup services to pet owners with government aid. - ➤ Akron police arrested a 21-year-old man after he shot a 34-year-old man in an altercation in the 700 block of East Archwood Avenue near Park Lane Manor apartments Friday night at 9:17 p.m.—the victim was treated for a non-life-threatening injury and is in the hospital while detectives investigate the incident. - ➤ On Saturday, hundreds gathered in downtown Akron for the grand opening of the Akron History Center—an exhibit space that now houses over 150 artifacts and 60 displays in a three-floor building near the Civic Theatre and Lock 3. The center, managed by a local history specialist and curated by regional historians, will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Signal Akron
