Good morning, Akron. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 7th of April.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Akron marks its bicentennial with a weekly look back at local history on BeaconJournal.com — the series covers a 1825 public land sale in Western Reserve, a secret water engine experiment in 1875, a 1925 rule banning red front car lights, a 1975 performance by Blaze Starr at the Astor Theater, and a 2000 renovation at Stan Hywet Hall to repair drainage and walls. Each Sunday morning throughout the year, the feature shows how these events shaped our city.  Akron Beacon Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rain in Northeast Ohio takes two paths because a hidden watershed divide directs water either north to Lake Erie or south to the Ohio River. In Akron, most stormwater flows north into the Cuyahoga River while some drains south into the Tuscarawas system — a natural boundary that guides local water management.  WKYC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Ohio Department of Transportation unveiled 19 road construction projects in Summit County and Akron, including work on the Central Interchange and the state Route 8 bridge replacement that will cause ramp closures and detours. Several projects will begin or continue this spring and summer and are scheduled for completion between this year and 2028—motorists should follow posted detour signs.  Signal Akron

HEALTH NEWS

  • A 12-year-old boy from Gaza named Mohammed arrived in Cleveland last night with help from nonprofit Heal Palestine to begin urgent medical treatment after he was injured in a bombing that killed his brother and cousins—he flew to Chicago with three other children before coming here.  News 5 Cleveland
