  • Youth Opportunity Strategist Denico Buckley-Knight noted a 10% drop in youth violence and announced an esports pilot for middle schoolers at Lawton Street Community Center starting this summer + the program is set to expand to other centers.  Signal Akron

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 10, Akron blocked parking on a Highland Square street segment to curb in-car partying near local bars; Ward 1 Councilmember Fran Wilson said the trial will run through fall and patrols are set for Friday and Saturday nights (visitors should use nearby parking lots).  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Akron leaders have rolled out new safety measures in Highland Square by closing eight parking spots on West Market Street and boosting police patrols from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights (parking restrictions will remain through the fall as a property assessment plan is under review).  News 5 Cleveland
