  • Local groups in Akron will host many charity and social events in the coming weeks—events include a Taste of Medina County fundraiser on May 8 at the Blair Center and a United Way Bold Glow at J.E.   • In Palmyra Township on April 11 at 10 p.m. a Chevrolet Camaro believed to be speeding went off the road and overturned on Scotts Corners Road — the incident killed a 16-year-old Palmyra boy and injured three other teens.  Cleveland 19 News

  • Ohio's Mega Millions drawing on April 11 gave winning numbers 15, 37, 38, 56, 58 and Mega Ball 19 without a jackpot winner, and thousands claimed smaller prizes while the jackpot jumped to $96 million (cash option: $42.2 million) ahead of the Tuesday, April 15 drawing at 11 p.m.  WKYC

  • The Reagan Tokes Act took effect in 2019 after a college student's murder and now requires judges to set both a minimum and a maximum term for certain felony convictions. Prison officials add extra time for serious rule violations without further judicial review—aiming to keep violent offenders off the streets.  News 5 Cleveland

HEALTH NEWS

  • The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a nationwide public health alert yesterday warning consumers that some popular soup and bowl products may be contaminated with wood. The alert said items reached stores and institutions in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan and advised that they be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.  FOX 8
