- ➤ North Hill CDC appointed David Swirsky as its new executive director on April 13. The nonprofit will build on inclusive neighborhood development, including plans for redeveloping 771 N. Main St. for local microenterprises (and affordable housing). Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ The Senior Summit Steering Committee will host a new midweek expo for seniors, families, and service providers on Wednesday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. George Fellowship Center (3204 Ridgewood Road, Fairlawn), replacing the usual Saturday schedule to better serve community needs. - ➤ A GasBuddy analysis shows Monday is the cheapest day to fill up in Akron while prices peak on Thursday. The study found gas costs can swing 15 to 45 cents per gallon (savings of four to nine cents) so planning your fill-up may help drivers save money. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ An Akron man won the Ohio Lottery twice on April 13 after a 50-cent bet netted $250 and a scratch-off at Giant Eagle won $300,000 (worth $219,750 after taxes). He plans to pay off his parent's car, buy a new car, and save the rest. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Three proposals to cut 17 Akron Public Schools jobs did not get enough votes at Monday's Board of Education meeting. - ➤ City officials have boosted safety at Highland Square by installing barriers on W. Market Street—forcing drivers to park in the city lot behind Chipotle. Private security and police began patrolling the area this past weekend and will continue through spring and summer. Cleveland 19 News
- ➤ K9 Strong, a Florida based non profit that supplies safety and training equipment to law enforcement K9 teams, is donating first aid kits to the Summit County Sheriff's Office in Akron to help care for working dogs. The donation aims to offer critical life saving support in the field. iHeartMedia
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority's plan to redevelop Summit Lake Apartments is stalled after federal funds were cut and resources were redirected to stabilize Cascade Village Apartments (a nearby complex). City officials will review any new proposals to support affordable housing in the area. Akron Beacon Journal
