- ➤ Indigenous artist Kent Monkman presents History is Painted by the Victors at the Akron Art Museum, the first solo show by a Native American there, where his traveling exhibition challenges colonial views with 33 original works on display through Aug. 17. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will return to Cleveland in 2027 as local discussions highlight that Akron's The Black Keys and Devo deserve induction for their innovative contributions. - ➤ On April 13, the school board voted to move Leggett Community Learning Center from the North cluster to the Garfield cluster to ease Jennings' overcrowding — starting next school year, Leggett's students will attend Innes for middle school and Garfield for high school, affecting fewer than 50 students per year. - ➤ Akron school board members rejected superintendent Mary Outley’s proposal to cut 17 jobs on April 13, saying they need more details to reduce $11 million from the operating budget before the fiscal year ends on June 30. Outley now awaits further guidance from the board. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Ohio lawmakers approved a rule on April 13 that will permanently ban synthetic kratom starting May 14 while keeping natural kratom legal as officials review further regulation. The move targets the synthetic product to reduce public health risks. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Akron taxpayers must file 2025 returns today to avoid monthly penalties, as the IRS has processed over 78 million returns and issued 57 million refunds. Those filing late may apply for an extension until Oct. 15 but must pay taxes owed today. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ The Ohio Casino Control Commission fined online prediction market Kalshi $5 million for offering unlicensed sports betting in Ohio. The fine was announced on Tuesday, Apr. 14 (5:05 p.m.) after Kalshi had operated without a required state license since January 2025. Akron Beacon Journal
