  • MGM Northfield Park racino will close on Monday, April 20 as ownership transfers to Clairvest Group Inc (new rewards program details will follow) and reopen on Wednesday, April 22.   Akron Beacon Journal
  • On April 15, several food chains across Ohio offered Tax Day deals such as free nuggets at Wendy’s, 15% off at White Castle, and 50% off frozen meals at Kroger; Krispy Kreme, 7-Eleven and others also provided discounts and giveaways.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Dave’s Hot Chicken will open an eatery in Fairlawn tomorrow at 3265 W. Market St., Suite 100B near Summit Mall. The restaurant will offer chicken tenders, sliders, mac and cheese, fries, and cauliflower dishes with ranch, reaper ranch, hot honey, and spicy barbecue.  Cleveland.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Akron Children’s Museum will host Akron Express Rails & Runways from April 25-26 with hands-on play, STEM activities & a flight simulator for children. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum on S. Main St, and tickets are available for both museum entry and a train ride.  Cleveland.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad plans to replace diesel engines with electric battery-powered ones for zero emissions rides through the national park in spring 2027. The Ohio EPA will reimburse 60% of the project’s $3.5 million cost.  Akron Beacon Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A groundbreaking ceremony for a major construction project on I-90 was held on Apr. 15 near Akron (officials expect the project to improve traffic flow).  Cleveland 19 News

  • New Akron Zips men's basketball coach Dustin Ford described his coaching style in a recent video, noting he uses a different method than mentor John Groce (a familiar strategy). He plans to build on this unique approach as he leads the team.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • The Cavaliers are set to open their best-of-seven playoff series against the Raptors at Rocket Arena with game one at 1 p.m. Saturday and hold high hopes following last season’s early exit; the trade for James Harden aims to boost their chances despite added risk.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • The Akron Zips signed former Western Michigan forward Max Burton (a redshirt senior) through the NCAA transfer portal. He joined the team following coach Dustin Ford's introduction at House Three Thirty and will compete next season.  Akron Beacon Journal
