  • Ohio Contemporary Ballet will perform three works by late Heinz Poll, founder of the Ohio Ballet, at 7 p.m., Friday, April 25 at EJ Thomas Hall in Akron. The program will feature his signature piece 'Bolero' and the revival of two works unseen since his passing—'Planes/Configurations' and 'Light Breeze'—with recreated costumes and lighting to honor his choreographic legacy.  Cleveland.com
  • Akron natives Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney of The Black Keys picked their name because local artist Alfred McMoore often left messages saying, “Your black key is taking too long.” They will tour soon with a new album coming and the Akron Art Museum will host an exhibit on McMoore’s art in the fall — showing the band's deep connection to the community.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Gas prices in Akron increased by 20.5 cents per gallon last week, reaching an average of $3.19 according to GasBuddy—Cleveland’s prices rose 18.1 cents to $3.15. The national average now stands at $3.10 per gallon—indicating local prices climbed as oil prices rallied.  WKYC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Anthony Finnell, Akron's independent police auditor, said the police must update training on head strikes because these blows can lead to serious injuries + he urged an independent review of current use-of-force policies and stronger de-escalation tactics to better protect the community.
