  • Bricks + Minifigs opened in Fairlawn in January at 3750 W. Market St. in Rosemont Commons. The family-run store offers a variety of Lego sets, bulk pieces, and custom designs while hosting regular events for children and adults.  Akron.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Akron Soul Train hosts two exhibits by Jeff France and Kim Kapera through May 30. France debuts a multi-projector installation at CapSoul Gallery while Kapera presents immigration memoir—a reception is today, April 24 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at 191 S. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Akron Zoo's Komodo Kingdom Cafe earned the 2026 Greenest Zoo Restaurant award on April 23 after implementing 77 green steps to boost sustainability + upgrades include a geothermal heat pump, LED lighting and solar panels.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • The Akron Zoo protects wildlife by rescuing species and working with downtown owners to cut window collisions. It is expanding its facilities with a new animal hospital and Pride of Africa area, and will host a dinosaur exhibit from May 16 to Sept. 8 (featuring life-size models).  Akron Beacon Journal

FINANCE NEWS

  • An Akron man credited a sparrow that flew into his car with his $2.4 million lottery win. He bought scratch-off tickets at the BP station on Carnegie Avenue on April 23 and later chose the $1.2 million cash payout, receiving $879,000 after taxes.  Akron Beacon Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Akron City Council received an update on the Gorge Dam removal on April 20 as crews remove sediment until year's end — concrete demolition and dredging will follow after design plans finish next year. A public presentation is scheduled for April 28 at 6 p.m. at Akron-Summit County Public Library.  Akron.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Akron Children’s received a $50 million gift from philanthropist Tom Golisano on April 20 to boost pediatric care in underserved areas, including heart, cancer and behavioral health, and the hospital will rename its campus the Akron Children’s Golisano Campus (per the press release).  Akron.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • At the former Stow Glen property on Kent Road, Evergreen Park of Stow is open for lease while The Avenue at Stow Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center is set to open this summer plus new Sheetz, Panda Express, and Chick-fil-A will debut by the end of the year.  Akron Beacon Journal
