Good morning, Akron. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 25th of April.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Improvements to North Main Street moved forward after the April 21 Council meeting when officials approved plans to send assessment letters to affected property owners. The $18 million project will add resurfacing, new traffic signals, and protected crossings between the All-America Bridge and the High Level Bridge (northern city limit) with utility upgrades set to begin after July (work expected to continue until 2027).  Akron.com
  • On April 21, Summit County Council discussed the Tri-County Jobs for Ohio Graduates Summer Youth Employment Program, which will offer 16-to-18-year-olds summer jobs from June 9 to Aug. 2 at $15 per hour for 20 hours a week—Heather Yannayon noted that funding limits will reduce the program’s slots from over 250 last year to 215 this time. The council will vote on the proposal next week.  Akron.com
  • Summit County voters will decide on May 6 on Issue 18 - a 1-mill library capital levy to pay for repairs and upgrades at 19 public library locations. Library leaders said the measure, which will cost homeowners about $35 per $100,000 of home value each year, is the first capital funding request in over 28 years.  Akron.com
