- ➤ United Way of Summit & Medina's Housing Stability Fund, funded by CareSource, helps local residents avoid homelessness by covering emergency housing costs. Since May 2024, the program aided 87 households, including Akron resident DeAngelo Guest who now has stable housing on the west side. Akron Beacon Journal
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Global helium supply chain disruptions have led to a shortage that affected local businesses; Everything Party in Streetsboro signed a new supply contract and began taking helium reservations, while Acme Fresh Markets reported a 15% increase in helium prices (customers are advised to check availability). - ➤ MKV Polymers, a new subsidiary of Germany-based MKV GmbH, set up its North American headquarters at Bounce Innovation Hub in Akron in January (310 sqft office) for plastics recycling and polymer compounds sales. The company plans to launch a U.S. production facility with local support, including from the mayor. Cleveland.com

- ➤ Fairlawn native Warren Scott Friedman is directing Fiddler on the Roof at the Akron Civic Theatre's Knight Stage in May. The musical will run May 1 to May 17 at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays with a diverse cast. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Akron City Council is moving forward on removing the Gorge Dam as crews clear sediment to prepare for concrete removal and dredging. The project, fully funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative + partners, is one of the largest sediment clearance efforts to date. iHeartMedia
