- ➤ Crown Point Ecology Center hosts its 20th annual plant sale this Mother's Day weekend at 3220 Ira Road with thousands of organic plants and expert advice. The sale runs Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. News 5 Cleveland
- ➤ Cuyahoga Falls hosted the annual Ohio Rubber Duck Dash on Saturday — the event featured a six-story rubber duck, duck races at 1:30 p.m., an inflatable track built by students, food trucks, live music and art installations until 4 p.m. News 5 Cleveland
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The spotted lanternfly is an invasive pest that can harm local vineyards and home gardens (experts advise removing mud-coated egg masses) by scraping surfaces and dipping them in soapy water or rubbing alcohol. Homeowners in Ohio are urged to act this spring to curb the pest. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ House Bill 484 would let Ohio early educators access publicly funded childcare without their income affecting eligibility. The pilot program backed by Summit Education Initiative in Summit County is expected to improve staff retention. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Freedom BLOC introduced two housing charter amendments on April 23 at Akron Urban League that would ban housing application fees and protect renters from discrimination.
