  • Akron Children’s Hospital hosted a Walk of Honor on Monday at 1 p.m. for Wooster High School baseball player Maddox Graser, who passed away after a sudden illness Saturday — the hospital set up separate areas for community remembrance.  Cleveland 19 News
  • The Humane Society of Summit County hosts a Spring Fling pet adoption event from May 7 to May 9 at its Akron shelter (752 West Portage Trail) with 50% off adoption fees that include vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, and a microchip.  Cleveland 19 News
  • Portage Animal Protective League in Ravenna is offering 50% off adoption fees for tabby cats today for National Tabby Cat Day, hoping to find new homes for kittens, adults, and seniors at its location (8122 Infirmary Rd). Donations and fostering options are also available.  Cleveland 19 News
  • The Akron Police Department is teaming with soccer clubs to build trust by coaching youth on the field. Officer Michael Williams is partnering with Akron Metro Football Club & others, and a donation drive will take place this Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Tallmadge North Avenue Soccer Complex.  News 5 Cleveland

  • An Akron man won $2.4 million with the Ohio Lottery’s 'Set For Life' scratch-off game after a sparrow landed in his car, which he saw as a lucky sign. He chose a $1.2 million lump sum (net about $879,000) and will consult a financial advisor.  WKYC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North High School staged its first musical in over 20 years on March 14 with 'Little Shop of Horrors' despite funding challenges, with students in acting and tech roles — Director Rae Burton said the revival in North Hill renews the drama program and sets the stage for future shows.  Signal Akron

  • Former Akron Zips cornerback Malcolm DeWalt IV joined the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent following the draft after interest from several NFL teams, including the Browns. He played two seasons at Akron and now begins his NFL career.  Akron Beacon Journal
