  • Last Friday, Amazon presented a $10,000 check to Habitat for Humanity of Summit County to support Silver Maple Ridge Development in Akron, where the group will build 16 new homes. Volunteers and local operations manager Greg Mauldin are helping the non-profit bring affordable housing to the area + renew the neighborhood.  Cleveland 19 News
  • A Willowick mother who lost her son Theodore at 22 weeks is installing wind phones made from old newspaper boxes in Northeast Ohio to help families facing pregnancy and infant loss; her first wind phone is now at the Lake County Children's Memorial Butterfly Garden in Wickliffe. She drove to Sandusky to pick up 18 more wind phones for refurbishment (her non-profit A Touch of Teddy supports grieving families) and will place them around town ahead of Mother’s Day weekend.  News 5 Cleveland

  • Akron Police arrested Dontay Auston after officers responded to reports that he assaulted a woman at Lake Park Manor Apartments on Wednesday night—video of the arrest, which shows officers restraining Auston, has been watched nearly 300k times and is under review by Police Chief Brian Harding.  iHeartMedia

  • The Akron Zoo launches DinoTrek today with 20 giant life-size animatronic dinosaurs and interactive exhibits including a Dino Lab and Nursery—kids will meet baby dinosaurs and a T-Rex character at scheduled times as the Jurassic experience runs through Sept. 14.  FOX 8

  • Dave Polacek was installed as Barberton’s new fire chief on May 5 and now leads a 45-person team after learning hard lessons from major events like the 1999 Kreidel Plastics fire.
