  • West Hill's Glendale Park, a gravel-filled lot near the Glendale Steps, will be developed into a new park for neighborhood recreation. City officials plan to seed the lot and may add a wildflower meadow—as local groups and upcoming council votes set the stage for future amenities and business changes nearby.  Signal Akron
  • A 71-year-old man found dead in an Akron home in August 2024 was identified with DNA tests and his remains were reunited with his Colorado family (they had last been in contact in the 1970s). Summit County investigators are still checking his cause of death.  Akron Beacon Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A 20-year-old Akron woman, Ariana Higgins, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter for fatally shooting her boyfriend on March 11, 2021—she will be sentenced on June 27.  Cleveland 19 News

  • The Akron-Summit County Public Library will host a free multimedia lecture at 6 p.m. May 15 at the Main Library—reviving the Rodgers and Hart musical Dearest Enemy that premiered in Akron 100 years ago as part of the bicentennial celebration—and will hold a live performance on June 21 at Goodyear Theater featuring local actors and an 18-piece orchestra.  Akron Beacon Journal
