COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Starting June 8, eligible youth will get free breakfast and lunch at 15 local sites, including Patterson Park Community Center (800 Patterson Ave.). The program runs Monday-Friday through July 31, except June 19 and July 3, for children whose families meet income guidelines.  Cleveland.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An Eastlake North student suffered a brain injury during the pole vault event at the WRC Conference track meet held at Mayfield High School Thursday evening & underwent emergency surgery before being moved to Akron Children’s Hospital for intensive care.  Cleveland 19 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Blossom Music Center kicked off its summer concert series yesterday with Kid Cudi's Rebel Ragers Tour — it will host acts including Hardy and the Cleveland Orchestra until Oct. 8. The season brings pop, rock, and classical shows for local fans.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Buckets restaurant in Akron opened its private dining room 1984, themed after LeBron James’ birth year and decked with retro decor and games — it offers twists on 80s treats like Fruity Pebbles cheesecake.   • State Rep. Veronica Sims co-sponsored a bill to designate April 18 as Devo Day to honor the local new wave band (known for 'Whip It!'). The measure awaits committee review while Devo will perform a sold-out concert on June 3 at the Civic Theatre.  Akron Beacon Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Ohio awarded a $1M grant to the Summit County Land Bank for cleanup at Quaker Square (135 S. Broadway in Akron), where removal of asbestos, mold and biological waste will pave the way for redevelopment that could bring up to 1,000 jobs as part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Today, eight high school teams will begin the first girls flag football state tournament at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton at noon; the teams reached this stage via regional tournaments sponsored by the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals, and games are streamed live on Spectrum News.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • After the NFL schedule was announced on May 14, rankings for the quarterbacks the Browns may face in 2026 were released on May 15.   • Akron softball players Meagan Lee, Madie Jamrog and Haley Glass reflected on winning the Mid-American Conference Tournament title on May 9, marking a high point in the local sports season.  Akron Beacon Journal
