  • Several Akron-area cities are set to open pools and splash pads for Memorial Day weekend; Akron’s pools begin June 8 and splash pads on June 1 while Cuyahoga Falls, Green, Tallmadge, and Twinsburg open aquatic facilities May 23.  Akron Beacon Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Akron will rise over Memorial Day weekend as regular gas, currently around $4.71, is expected to near $5 a gallon according to Triple A East Central’s report (oil is around $107 per barrel and increased demand may push prices higher).  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Yesterday, several Akron high school students earned gold medals at the ACT-SO competition that offers mentorship, performance experience and scholarship paths. They are now advancing to nationals this summer as noted by the Akron NAACP ACT-SO Program.  Akron Beacon Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tick warnings are growing statewide as American dog ticks, blacklegged ticks and lone star ticks spread bacteria that cause Lyme disease and other infections. Health officials advise residents to wear repellents, avoid tick-heavy areas, and check themselves daily (ODH guidance) for bites.  Akron Beacon Journal
