  • On May 23, the Akron Police Department hosted its annual K9 Challenge at Firestone Stadium where teams from local departments showcased agility, obedience, and apprehension skills. Nearly 100 community members watched as dogs (including top dog Lobo) highlighted key police training ahead of recertification.  Akron Beacon Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 14, a 10-year-old student at Bridges Learning Center performed a Minecraft tune at the talent show, boosting his confidence as he earned applause from peers and teachers. The event showcased therapy-based music and art programs that help students manage emotions.  Signal Akron
  • Tia Geisler, a 13-year-old speller from Shore Middle School in Mentor, is preparing for her second attempt at the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee later this week in Washington, D.C. SPORTS NEWS

  • Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson said the team will 'let it all hang out' in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Knicks, with video showing his call for full commitment. His remarks set the stage for a high-energy matchup later this week.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • The Beacon Journal highlighted 15 standout high school baseball players from Summit County including performers at Archbishop Hoban, Norton, CVCA and Walsh Jesuit ahead of district tournament games.
