ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 13-year-old boy died after falling from a trailer during a Memorial Day parade on May 26 — firefighters responded immediately and Summit County sheriff’s deputies said his injuries were severe as he was pronounced dead at Akron Children’s Hospital.  FOX 8

  • Akron police arrested a 33-year-old man who shot at officers during a welfare check on Grant Street Sunday night—officers returned fire and a 27-year-old woman was hospitalized after being shot in her apartment.  Cleveland 19 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Weathervane Playhouse in Akron got its name from a weathervane on its old carriage house—called The Barn—that once had a rooster when the theater was founded 90 years ago. Today, the theater uses that rooster image on its logo and stage props to honor volunteers with its Chanticleer Awards in its Merriman Valley space.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Alterra Energy, a local plastic-to-oil company, has asked the EPA for a permit renewal that would lower its allowed plastic feed from 6,250 to 5,000 pounds per hour—local groups and residents have raised pollution concerns and will speak at a public meeting on Wednesday, May 28 at 6 p.m. at the Akron-Summit County Public Library.  Signal Akron
