ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Thirteen-year-old Matthew Schultz from North Canton fell off a trailer during a Memorial Day parade in Green—he was hit by its tires and rushed to Akron Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  iHeartMedia
  • The Ohio State Highway Patrol said 11 crashes happened over Memorial Day weekend, resulting in 12 deaths—down from 26 last year—and reported over 17,000 traffic stops with 400 impaired driving arrests, 70 drug arrests, and more than 2,000 seat belt citations, including three deadly crashes in Summit County.  News 5 Cleveland

CRIME NEWS

  • A 41-year-old suspect was taken into custody after he assaulted an older man at the Akron Circle K on West Market Street just before 4 p.m. on Sunday – the victim was dragged by his vehicle and remains hospitalized in critical condition.  iHeartMedia

  • Akron and Summit County host a free event today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the United Way of Summit and Medina offices (37 N. High St.) to honor Sojourner Truth Day and mark the first anniversary of the Sojourner Truth Legacy Plaza adjacent to the Old Stone Church site.  Cleveland.com
  • This weekend, Cleveland Ballet will perform Impressions of Picasso at the Akron Art Museum starting at 7 p.m. Saturday with a free discussion from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.—tickets will be $50 for patio seating and $30 for lawn seating. Habitat for Humanity will host a two-day volunteer event in Lakemore from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Lakemore United Methodist Church, and the Black Excellence Arts Festival will showcase local artists and vendors at Hardesty Park on Saturday from noon to 7 p.m.  Signal Akron

  • Paris Caldwell, the assistant coach at Garfield Community Learning Center, will play in the first girls-women’s game at Hoop for Coop on May 31 at the James A. Rhodes Arena at the University of Akron campus—she spent her high school years as a power forward and now mostly coaches. The event honors Kimyata ‘Coop’ Cooper Jr. and will require all players to have their blood pressure checked before stepping onto the court.  Signal Akron
