COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Conservancy for CVNP has launched an all-terrain wheelchair lending program so guests with mobility challenges can explore trails and parks free of charge. Visitors can request the GRIT Freedom Chair by emailing [email protected] while trained staff are available to assist at the park.  Akron.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Akron-Canton Airport is offering naming rights for facility areas (including the main terminal entrance and parking lots) to raise around $353,500 annually. Proposals were due by May 22 and naming deals will go to the board for approval on Jun. 18.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Summit Artspace held its 2026 Arts Alive Awards ceremony on May 20 in downtown Akron at House Three Thirty to honor local artists, educators and advocates who enhance the city's creative scene. Executive Director Natalie Grieshammer Patrick emphasized the event's role in fostering community support for the arts.  Akron.com
  • Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will host Steam in the Valley from June 5-7 and 12-14 with the historic Nickel Plate Road No.-765. Guests can choose from coach or dome seating and ride in open-window circus cars to experience a hands-on piece of local railroad history.  Akron.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Akron Public Schools and Trust for Public Land unveiled a design for Akron’s first Community Schoolyard at Jennings CLC on May 27, featuring a playground, soccer field, and sustainable features (including stormwater management) as part of the community-driven project; groundbreaking is expected in May 2027.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Akron Public Schools fired custodial services supervisor Darian Johnson effective immediately on May 26 after an independent factfinder recommended termination (finding credible evidence of insubordination). Johnson denies any wrongdoing and alleges the decision is retaliatory, leaving him to pursue possible legal appeals.  Akron Beacon Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bath Township Board met on May 18 at Revere High School (hosted by teacher Jason Milczewski) where trustees reviewed township services, approved payments for police camera storage and park projects, and answered student questions; they will meet next on June 15 at Bath Center Building.  Akron.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • This Saturday, Hoop for Coop hosts its 9th Annual Men’s Health Fair & Basketball Tip-Off at Firestone Community Learning Center in Akron, featuring 40 vendors, 12 games with 24 teams, and 250 free health screenings from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event aims to promote men's well-being.  News 5 Cleveland
