- ➤ Volunteers placed about 50 American flags around Firestone Stadium on May 23 before Memorial Day under guidance from Councilman Donnie Kammer of Ward 7— marking the centennial of the stadium. The flags were installed on light poles and the fence and will remain on display through the Fourth of July— a first-time display at the venue. Akron.com

- ➤ Former Akron police Capt. Doug Prade, convicted in 1998 for the murder of his ex wife Dr. Margo Prade in November 1997, is set for a parole hearing on June 4 and gave his first in-person interview in years discussing his prison time, his near-fatal COVID-19 battle, and his reflections on the case — the Beacon Journal detailed the evolving front-page coverage over the years. - ➤ Two Doylestown men, Lauren Bellar (28) and Tyler Bates (34), were sentenced to four to six years in prison for aggravated robbery at an Akron Acme Fresh Market on December 7, where security officers were attacked as Bates left with unpaid items and Bellar joined in before they fled. - ➤ Akron-based band The Shootouts releases its new album 'Switchback' today via Transoceanic Records and features guest vocals by Vince Gill along with other notable country artists—this album comes after the band's diverse live performances and memorable past appearances. - ➤ The Akron-Canton Airport announced a three year strategic plan that will add new air service, upgrade technology, and update its control tower and electric charging stations—steps that will prepare it for changes like larger aircraft and airline mergers. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting June 1, Metro RTA will offer free rides on Saturdays and Sundays for riders of its direct and ADA routes in the greater Akron area, with the program running through Aug. 31. Last summer, the service provided over 57,000 free trips for local riders. Cleveland.com
