  • Farmers' markets across Greater Akron, including Cuyahoga Valley, Medina, and Stow, are welcoming summer shoppers with events from 9 a.m. on Saturdays and special activities like free canoe rides at Summit Lake starting June 3.  Akron Beacon Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Akron Fire responded at 6:04 a.m. Saturday to a commercial fire that destroyed Roush’s Market at 554 W. Thornton St. — the neighborhood’s sole grocery store — with no injuries reported as officials said the owners plan to rebuild.  Cleveland 19 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Glenn Miller of Whiskertin Crafted Light showcased his custom lighting art, featuring a roller skate lamp and a whiskey bottle lamp, at his Akron showroom and studio on May 28. He collaborated on displays at Buckets in House Three Thirty (turning everyday objects into functional art).  Akron Beacon Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The American Heart Association joined other groups in backing Senate Bill 396, a proposal to give Ohio workers paid leave for medical emergencies, caring for loved ones, or welcoming a new child. The bill now awaits its first hearing at the Statehouse.  News 5 Cleveland
  • Work on the Bailey Road waterline replacement project in Cuyahoga Falls will start June 1 and continue until late November. Motorists should plan for temporary lane closures between Myrtle Avenue & McShane Drive as flaggers help manage one-way traffic through the work zone.  Akron Beacon Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Trade rumors for NBA stars Evan Mobley and Giannis Antetokounmpo persist as the Cavs highlight Mobley's key role in the team's progress, with president Koby Altman saying his play has boosted their success (the team is not planning a trade this summer).  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Miniya Mitchell led Buchtel to a second-place finish in the girls team race at the OHSAA regional meet in Austintown. She shared her thoughts after the race and celebrated the team's effort.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • At the North Royalton Division II regional track meet on May 29, Ellet's Trey Carter won the 100 meters (10.74 seconds) and finished second in the 200. Local competitors also earned titles in the relay, 1,600, and high jump events.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Woodridge's Connor Hons advanced to state in three events at the OHSAA regional track meet at Austintown—he also shared his thoughts on his performance.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Cavs president Koby Altman said the team is proud to reach the Eastern Conference Finals but disappointed after an overtime loss and plans to improve shot-making and endurance for next season. He noted that a packed playoff schedule exposed fatigue as a key challenge that they will address moving forward.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Justin Campbell is rebuilding his career after recent setbacks and is working hard to return to professional baseball. The local athlete plans to advance his training and aim for a comeback later this season in Akron.  Cleveland 19 News
