Good morning, Akron. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 2nd of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Three Goodyear blimps will fly over our city from Tuesday through Thursday to celebrate their 100th anniversary—each designed to honor the blimp's long legacy by appearing at key events including the State of the City address, a RubberDucks pregame, and views over Wingfoot Lake State Park. The airship flyovers will mark a special tribute as part of community celebrations.  WKYC
  • The Akron Community Foundation and local partners raised nearly $315,000 for victims of last year's June 2 mass shooting in East Akron—directing funds to cover transportation, housing and utilities—and noted contributions from United Way of Summit and Medina and the City of Akron.  Signal Akron

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hale Farm & Village opened its summer season on May 31 in Bath Township, offering visitors a hands-on experience of 19th-century life with historic buildings, costumed interpreters, and craft demonstrations. Operated by the Western Reserve Historical Society, the museum runs Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (adult admission is $15) (children 3 to 12 pay $8).  News 5 Cleveland
  • Akron celebrates its bicentennial by looking back at key moments such as Judge Aaron Norton’s death in 1825 and John D. Frank’s tapeworm incident in 1875. A 1925 memorial boulder, the 1975 removal of Ohio Edison’s Reddy Kilowatt sign, and a 2000 plea deal involving Ray Lewis after a stabbing—each marking a turning point in the city’s history—add depth to Akron’s storied past.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Akron native Vinnie Cimino has teamed up with Swensons to introduce two new menu items this June that honor his childhood flavors — a double cheeseburger with pimento cheese and a side dip served with saltine crackers. The items, created in collaboration with Cordelia, launched on June 1 and will be available at all Swensons locations except Lower.com Field — with a food truck event planned by Cordelia in Cleveland on June 30.  Signal Akron

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Akron Mayor Shammas Malik will deliver his State of the City address tomorrow at Lock 3 while addressing divided views on policing and plans for public safety. He said his administration will review the police department’s use-of-force policies with a $640,000 study—part of a broader approach that includes housing initiatives and downtown revitalization.  Signal Akron

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A Zillow study finds that despite rising home values and higher mortgage rates in many cities, Akron remains affordable for median-income families with a 10% down payment—while a larger down payment could open more affordable options in other areas.  FOX 8
