- ➤ Debbie Miller, an Akron resident, finished her mission to pick up one million pieces of trash after starting in February 2023 when her dog was injured by broken glass. She collected 1,426 pieces of broken glass (along with needles, nails, bolts, screws, a dozen knives and even a gun) and was praised by Mayor Shammas Malik. Cleveland 19 News
- ➤ Council Member Phil Lombardo hosted a luncheon at Dontino’s on East Cuyahoga Falls Avenue this past Saturday to honor 10 North Hill elders who are centenarians and nonagenarians—collectively sharing 987 years of life experience. - ➤ Beacon Journal staff earned many awards at the All Ohio Excellence in Journalism competition held on June 6 at the House of Blues in Cleveland—Jeff Lange won four first-place awards, Nate Ulrich and reporters Anthony Thompson and Bryce Buyakie also claimed top honors, and Tawney Beans was praised for social media work—and the team topped 10 categories overall. - ➤ Paul Tazewell—an Akron native and Buchtel High School graduate—won the Tony Award for Best Costume Design in a Musical for 'Death Becomes Her' on Sunday following his Oscar win months earlier, and he became only the second person in history to earn both awards in the same calendar year. WKYC
