  • Akron Zoo will host the season’s first Brew at the Zoo tasting on Saturday, June 21 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. featuring live music, animatronic dinosaurs & local breweries; tickets will include eight sample tastings, after-hours zoo admission & a specialty mocktail station with food trucks on site.  Cleveland.com
  • On Tuesday, Akron opened the new $7.8M Patterson Park Community Center at 800 Patterson Ave—this 12,400-square-foot facility replaces the older center and offers space for sports, meetings and events built with American Rescue Plan Act funds and designed for ADA access.  Cleveland.com

  • Dr. Hibachi food truck moved its base to Medina after owner Kitsada Hongsakrai bought a building to expand his commercial kitchen and plan a winter takeout service while adding wings and appetizers—he will also launch a new truck by next summer as his current truck undergoes engine repairs. The popular hibachi dishes remain priced between $15 and $20, and loyal customers continue to visit at events and festivals.  Akron Beacon Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Akron police are investigating three weekend incidents where gunfire struck multiple homes, with a 25-year-old man on Weiser Avenue reporting shots heard in his bedroom while rounds hit a tree and wall, a home on Ira Avenue seen with an ATV nearby and seven people inside, and another incident hit two residences and a parked vehicle on East Emerling and South Main where shell casings were recovered and no injuries were reported.  WKYC

  • On June 9, a Rolling Cash 5 ticket worth $130,000 was sold at a Giant Eagle Market District in Uniontown with winning numbers 6-10-17-21-30—ticket holders have 180 days to claim their prize. Another unclaimed winning ticket was sold in Brecksville.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • The Ohio Senate’s budget proposal keeps a trigger that could cut Medicaid expansion if federal funds drop—this may limit health care, home care and employment support for over 3 million Ohioans who rely on the program.
