- ➤ Akron will host the revival of the historic musical Dearest Enemy at the Goodyear Theater on Saturday, June 21 as part of the bicentennial celebration; director Joseph Rubin will bring back this 1925 show based on a true story from the American Revolution (free admission with prior registration) and the performance will begin at 7 p.m. (led by a Kent native with local production experience). - ➤ Celebrations for Juneteenth are underway across Ohio with events planned through the month. In Akron, the Urban League will host a festival on Saturday, June 21 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. featuring live performances, food trucks and vendors — part of a broader series of parades, musical shows and educational programs in other Ohio cities. - ➤ Ohio lawmakers introduced a bipartisan bill requiring public water systems to replace all lead pipes within 15 years at an estimated cost of $5 billion—officials are urging a solid funding plan for the project. Akron is set to finish replacing its lead service lines by the end of 2027—continuing long-running local efforts to secure safe drinking water. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family reached a 7.4 billion settlement with 55 states, including Ohio, to resolve opioid lawsuits that follow the opioid crisis.
