- ➤ Akron will launch Connect at the Rec, a free summer program for teens held at the Ed Davis Community Center and Joy Park Community Center on five Friday nights from 5-9 p.m. starting June 27; the events will offer open gym, arts and crafts, a DJ, a mobile gaming truck, food at 7 p.m. and visits from the police & fire departments and require registration at the door. - ➤ On Friday, the Fraternal Order of Police invited 42 Akron youth to spend a day fishing, playing basketball, and throwing a football—a fun event organized with the Fallen Fathers Foundation to build trust between officers and the community. Both active duty and retired officers, along with mentors, joined the event to offer the young participants a break from routine patrol duties. FOX 8

- ➤ Akron will see dangerously high temperatures over 90 from Sunday through Thursday, and extreme heat risk begins Monday with almost no overnight relief.
