  • Local event organizers announced many upcoming community activities including Buckeye Book Fair’s call for authors due July 15 for a fair scheduled on Nov. 1 at Greystone Event Center — the release also lists a Subaru Crosstrek raffle on Sept. 13, a Trinity Rose Foundation Festival on June 27, and several other charity and social events with set deadlines and ticket details.  Akron Beacon Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rescuers plan to resume the search today for a man and a 5-year-old child after their kayak capsized near the Sheraton Suites on Saturday evening; the Akron Fire Department Dive Team suspended efforts Saturday night due to poor visibility (fast-moving water from recent storms).  Akron Beacon Journal

  • A new family-owned entertainment venue has opened in downtown Barberton that offers ax throwing, escape rooms & an arcade in the old post office building on West Tuscarawas Avenue. The business plans to add a new escape room in July and expects arcade games to arrive the week of June 23.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 'Beyond the Water' art exhibit opened March 19 at Stewart’s Caring Place in Fairlawn and will run until July 18 — it displays 63 works by 31 Asheville artists impacted by Hurricane Helene — with all sales proceeds returned to the artists to help rebuild their art community. Mac and Allyse Love of ART x LOVE in Akron led the project to support the artists and brighten the center’s halls for visitors.  Akron Beacon Journal

FINANCE NEWS

  • An Ohio Lottery player in Summit County won nine Pick 5 jackpots by buying nine tickets at Macedonia Speedway, with each ticket offering $25,000 and the winner receiving about $162,000 after taxes.  Akron Beacon Journal
