  • Yesterday at 4:20 p.m., Parker—the zoo’s adult female gibbon—gave birth to a white-cheeked baby gibbon at the Akron Zoo, and the baby is doing well though its sex is not yet determined. Guests can visit the indoor day room daily to see the gibbon family.  Signal Akron
  • Signal Akron compiled a list of local farmers markets that offer fresh produce and locally grown goods with hours set for each location and allow cash, debit, credit, and food benefit programs. The list details that Summit Lake Neighborhood Farmers Market runs Tuesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. through September 23 with over 15 vendors—while other markets like Firestone and Medina Square have their own schedules to meet different needs.  Signal Akron
  • Akron nonprofit The Positivity Spectrum, started by Sarah Kovit Hanna after her son needed an aide at YMCA camp, will launch a virtual legal aid clinic on August 1 to help autism families with IEP challenges and special needs trusts—volunteer attorneys and law students will provide support.   • Greater Akron will celebrate the Fourth of July with events running from July 1 to 5 as fireworks, parades and festivals are scheduled across the region. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, the cruise ship Goodtime I hit Buckeye Reef on Lake Erie and local mariner Captain John Schneider rescued 109 passengers before marine salvage crews began offloading fuel and preparing a tugboat operation—officials reported the ship had little damage and no fuel leak.  FOX 8

  • Kent State University's board approved nearly $703.6 million in spending starting July 1 and set tuition and fee rates for new fall students using the Tuition Guarantee Model.
