  • During a live broadcast on 3News, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad announced that its 2025 North Pole Adventure ride will run from Nov. 14 — Dec. 21; members can buy tickets early starting Sept. 16 with public sales opening on Oct. 7 while Christmas in July celebrations continue until July 25.  WKYC

  • A 20-year-old man lost his life after his motorcycle struck a car at the intersection of Brown Street and Stanton Avenue in Akron Tuesday evening—officers responded shortly after 5 p.m. and are investigating the crash.  FOX 8
  • Akron police confirmed a 20-year-old man died after his motorcycle collided with a car at the intersection of Brown Street and Stanton Avenue around 5:13 p.m. Tuesday, July 22 — investigators from the Accident Reconstruction Unit are looking into the crash.  WKYC

  • Taste of Akron begins today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Hardesty Park with free entry and food vendors where attendees pay directly — local restaurants and food trucks participate — and the Akron Arts Expo takes place on July 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and July 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring over 100 juried art exhibitors in various mediums.  Cleveland.com
  • Hudson's 12-year-old Mirabella Rong was chosen from nearly 2,000 children to play a Metropolis kid in the new Superman movie after filming scenes reacting to a monster fight in Cleveland last summer. She attended the red carpet premiere on July 11 with her family + met stars like David Corenswet, which has encouraged her to pursue more acting opportunities.  Akron Beacon Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the state announced that more than $45 million in grant funds — provided by the U.S. Department of Education — will expand evidence-based literacy instruction in Northeast Ohio schools. Barberton City Schools will get about $1.5 million while Edge Learning will receive over $480,000 to boost their literacy programs.  iHeartMedia
  • The Akron-Summit County Public Library has analyzed checkouts since Memorial Day & released a list of summer reads that shows which print books, e-books, and audiobooks are popular. Collection Development Coordinator Kaitlin Booth said that for every three holds the library will buy a new copy & more titles will be added as holds increase.  Akron Beacon Journal
